Old Comics Wednesday

Stopped at the comics store in the C.H. mall yesterday on my way to give blood. They didn't have the Dark Phoenix trade, but they did have a few things I'd been wanting.

Runaways Hardcover Vol. 3 (Digests 6&7, Issues 13-24 of the second run)

I'm glad Karolina's back, though I could do without shapeshifter hubby.

Wait, Gert and Chase are sleeping together? I didn't realize they had taken it quite so far.

I was spoiled for Gert's death by the Civil War trade, so I wasn't surprised, but I can't quite say I get it. There's definitely something missing without her. Also, not a fan of how the gender ratio seems to be balancing out.

I lot of awesome stuff, but at the same time sort of forgettable. Enjoyable, though.

I'm interested in what happens next, especially now that's Whedon taking over.

New X-Men: Childhood's End, Vol. 2 (Issues 24-27)

Now that's the core team has been established, there's a lot less focus on the school as a whole, which is depressing. There's only a page of Cuckoo content and a lot of my other favorite characters appear very little or not at all. Emma gets a lot of great panels, though.

Who, exactly, is this David-who-is-now-a-human and why does he keep singling out Mindee when he interacts with the Cuckoos? He doesn't have one of those handy black boxes identifying him, and without a last name I can't really Wikipedia him.

A lot of people die in this. I guess you can get away with that when the figures aren't as iconic as in Astonishing or Uncanny or whatever.

And when you get down to it, I could care less about the plot. I really just want to see the students and faculty interacting with each other.

Ooh, there is X-23/Dust femslash, right? Because there really should be.

....Okay, you are now the second person on my flist to pick up Runaways Digests 6 and 7 aka the 3rd hardback in the five days since I got mine. This is slightly worrying.

Wasn't a fan of the new Pride - felt they were way too stereotypish of gamers. Though the book certainly picked up in the second half.
