Rhythm is important to me when I write my River voice. While River uses metaphors and Drusilla's voice has its unique cadence, to me River's voice is defined by its rhythms while Drusilla's is more marked by its allusiveness (and the content of the allusions; River's metaphors can have a broader range than Dru's). Still, I have of a hell of a time keeping the voices distinct! (Throw crazy!Fred into the mix and I'm pulling out my hair!)
I like that we both seemed to decide that there are mirrors in hell.
This fic goes in so many random directions that when I read your feedback for the first time I went "Dickinson? As in Emily? Really? Where?" before I remembered.
