It isn't referencing Meg Manning's family, it's referencing real-world football. Archie Manning was a quarterback for the Saints in the 70s and his sons Peyton and Eli are current NFL quarterbacks.
Ah! I saw this entry and was like, "Peyton Manning's a quarterback... what is there to get?" [I know next to nothing about football but do recognize some major names.]
Manning was Meg's last name on Veronica Mars- It was confusing for some people on the TWoP boards who thought it was a reference to the in-show Manning family rather than the real world one.
Yeah, I don't watch VMars, but Googling "Meg Manning" informed me that she was a VMars character, which caused me to realize that Alixtii's confusion must have resulted from the Subject line being in last night's VMars episode.
It occurred to me to worry about people who hadn't seen the episode for whatever reason and might be spoiled (but decided it wasn't a spoiler of any consequence); it did not occue to me to worry about people who hadn't seen the episode because they do not watch the show (gasp!) and thus would have no idea what the frell I was talking about. The context was obvious to me, after all.
