Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.
Apparently, I am one of two people on the 'net to use the phrase "consent issues like whoa." (The other is [livejournal.com profile] balefully, referring to an episode of Supernatural.)

And looking at my icon has reminded me that the summary to my fic Left Behind reads, "The women behind the Time Lords, annunciationless."

Based on [livejournal.com profile] likeadeuce's recommendation here at [livejournal.com profile] xmen_on_lj, I drove to my not-so-local comic book today and picked up Uncanny X-Men Annual #2, which focuses on Emma Frost. While I was there I picked up New X-Men Ultimate Collection #3, which collects together a couple of trades I haven't read yet and don't own, and issues 15, 17, 18. 20, and 23 of the Peter David run of Supergirl, issues which sadly haven't been traded to my knowledge. And it made me think; I used to have a post on LJ where I kept track of all my comics, but I stopped updating it after I started using LibraryThing extensively. But while that works for the TPB's, the single issues aren't recorded there, as they don't have ISBN's, and while the Buffy issues are reproduced in the omnibuses, I do own some issues where I don't own the corresponding trades. I thought I really should have a list. So that's what this here is.

Again, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] likeadeuce for the issues sent to me by her.

alixtii: Peter and Susan, in extreme close-up. (Narnia)
Pick up to 15 OTPs.
Describe them in 15 words or less.
Have your flist guess the OTP.

1. Pedal photography with an exhibition at the Tate; better bring a book. [RPF -- Joss/Summer -- guessed by [livejournal.com profile] wisdomeagle]
2. Nativity's transposition, two forked roads, meets again with money and mathematics. Jealousy ebbs, equilibrium restored. [Veronica Mars -- Mac/Madison -- guessed by [livejournal.com profile] wisdomeagle]
3. Sentences flow together, as do selves in bodies stripped bare to times, possibilities. Hook shop?
4. With harboring metal, OT3. Innocence heals old wounds, restores faith, likes to frak. [Firefly -- Mal/Kaylee(/Serenity) -- guessed by [livejournal.com profile] wisdomeagle]
5. Complements, conqueror and nurturer: all the world, save one brother, falls at their feet.
6. Omnipotence and omniscience, innocence and experience, cape and chair: both can self-destruct quite well. [DC Comics -- Supergirl/Oracle -- guessed by [livejournal.com profile] wisdomeagle]
7. Out of poetry fashioned she him; he remade himself; forever is a long time. [Buffy the Vampire Slayer -- Spike/Drusilla -- guessed by [livejournal.com profile] wisdomeagle]
8. Man and metal, not brother or sister, but still 'cesty enough for me. [Sarah Connor Chronicles -- John/Cameron -- guessed by [livejournal.com profile] wisdomeagle]
9. She'd do anything for her, but she's not alone. Never partner, just quirky assistant, alas. [Veronica Mars -- Veronica/Mac -- guessed by [livejournal.com profile] wisdomeagle]
10. A madwoman, irresistable, and her caretaker. The future underestimates their love.
11. Former hostage, employed: trusted to watch, kill on betrayal (but doesn't, out of spite). [Astonishing X-Men -- Kitty/Emma -- guessed by [livejournal.com profile] wisdomeagle]
12. New canon (boo!) wrecks old OTP, gives new one. No need for ursine ingestion, though.
13. Cooler than red-haired true love, but just a fling--'til David's star arrives in school?
14. Age too young for chaos, girl too young to dance; absence breeds madness.
15. School visit leads to playing hooky, and a return to brother's bed, broken. [Firefly -- Simon/River -- guessed by [livejournal.com profile] wisdomeagle]

DC Thought

alixtii: Kara Zor-El stands over a fallen Kara Zor-L. Cropped so that Powergirl's chest and Supergirl's midriff are in frame. (Supergirl)
I can understand why Amazon.com thinks someone who owns all the Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes TPB's would be interested in Superman and the Legion of Superheroes.

But they're still wrong.

It's the last night of 2007, so I'll try and keep track of all the comics I've bought (or was sent by [livejournal.com profile] likeadeuce). More for my own reference than anything else. In rough chronological order.

Thank the Lord the first volume of Emma Frost arrived today, so Vols. 2 and 3 aren't just pointlessly languishing on the shelves. The third-party I ordered it from through Amazon Marketplace the first time didn't have it even though they said they did, and this time I never got any confirmation it was shipped or anything so I was afraid the same thing was going to happen again.

Also arrived today were a Birds of Prey trade that was good but not extraordinary (intense Dinah/Babs subtext doesn't exactly count as out of the ordinary) and Supergirl: Identity which I haven't read yet but which I have it flipped through it and it looks really promising!

I think that covers everything I'm supposed to be getting?

I've been thinking about rotating my icons, so I made some comics icons. Now my skill with icon-ing is pretty much limited to cropping and resizing, but luckily that's all that was needed. Under the cut are four Astonishing Kitty icons, two Ultimate Kitty icons, four Stepford Cuckoo icons, and a Supergirl/Powergirl icon.

The icons are gankable, alter as you feel free, but I'm most interested in which icons I should use. Remember I only have the six slots, so every icon has to do triple- or quadruple duty, which means I'm leaning towards the 'cesty ones. But which do you like best? (Maybe I should dust off [livejournal.com profile] alixtiipolls.)

In the comments to the last post, [livejournal.com profile] bastardsnow ask me what I thought of the second Supergirl trade, Candor, and my review was long (although possibly not coherent; I've just gotten up for no good reason at 4am, although it does mean I can watch Doctor Who now) enough that I thought I'd make it a top-level post.

I want Supergirl/Oracle so badly!
alixtii: Avril Lavigne, wearing glasses, from the liner notes of "Let Go." Text: "Geek." (geek)
Is it just that I have more Marvel comic books, and am generally more familiar with that universe, or is DC's recent continuity even more confusing than Marvel's (which is pretty bad itself)?

I really want to read Supergirl/Oracle fic, and decided the only way I was going to get some was to write it myself, but I really can't get Kara's timeline straight. Stuff happens. then she goes to the future, then she comes back, and more stuff happens? I mean, I have five Supergirl trades at this point (the Batman/Superman where she is introduced, two Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes, and two volumes of her own title) and spent a good hour on Wikipedia and Google this afternoon, and I still can't for the life of me figure out what she's been doing in between, not to mention trying to synchronize it with Babs' timeline.

Meme: I'm 69% geek )

For comparison, when I told it I was a girl, I got only 68% geek.

[livejournal.com profile] cereta, one of the many fabulously brilliant producers of meta whom I've friended recently, has posted a mea culpa of sorts to her controversial (at least on my flist) essay The Ten Commandments of Crossovers:
[. . .] I can't deny that this play was making a lot of people very happy, and I didn't see that it was my place to piss on their Cheerios by telling them all the reasons they should stop it. I mean, it turns out my notion of play wasn't some folks' cuppa, either, but it sure makes me happy.
Now, I value [livejournal.com profile] cereta as a new addition to my flist, and I don't want to piss in her Cheerios (or anyone else's) when she is being gracious, but I do have some issues with her new post and in the spirit of friendly dialectic I commented with my thinky thoughts, and now this post is being cannibalized from those comments, because part of the raison d'ĂȘtre of this LJ is that so when I have thinky thoughts, I can tell to the world, damn it!

It's a common mistake that I'm sure I've made myself, but dangling parenthetheticals (or improperly nested parentheticals) really disrupt my reading process. I keep on waiting for the close parenthesis, and it never comes, and it's usually only a couple sentences further through the passage that I realize that the writer thinks they are writing non-parenthetically.

Now I'm off to finally see Superman Returns.
