Because Pro-Choice Does Not Mean Pro-Abortion

I'm not usually political in this journal, at least not beyond taking a general radical feminist theoretical lens and being anti-racism, anti-sexism, and anti-heterosexism. But.

This is a travesty.

Women should have control over their bodies. Not their parents, not their governments, and not judges. This is as true when they want to bring the fetus to term as when they want to abort it.

Period.

ETA: Severino Poletto, Archbishop of Torino says, "Society must take [care] of this child. I certainly oppose abortions but this case allows us to reflect on the situation. We have to take a step back and ask ourselves how this could have happened to a 13 year old girl."

My guess? She had sex. (With her 15-year-old boyfriend, according to the article.) Although if she had adequate access to protection and knowledge about protection, she probably wouldn't be pregnant, so the burden does ultimately fall on society. Just not in the way in which I think the Archbishop thinks it does.

God, that poor girl. I doubt the judge is going to order a lot of therapy for her, too, but that's pretty clearly what she really needs at this point -- and she's going to need it a hell of a lot more afterwards.

Jesus. I'm angry for that girl, and I'm scared as a pro-choicer that now the pro-lifers have precident of a forced aborition to use against us. :P

Well, forced abortions have existed for as long as abortions, unfortunately. I remember a representative from some pro-choice organization (Planned Parenthood?) explaining her organization's campaigns to eliminate forced abortions in sanitaria and jails and the like.
