If I were to run a multifandom cest-a-thon exchange, which fandoms should be the "main" fandoms? Veronica Mars, Supernatural, Firefly, and Harry Potter seem obvious choices, since they lend themselves to the incest, but are there others which should be on the list?

I'm not sure anyone writes it, but Arrested Development has multiple incest pairings that are practically canon.

Yeah, I'm not sure what to do with it. It certainly lends itself to the 'cest, but I don't know if it's capable of doing the work of "main fandoms" in making sure everyone requests stuff everyone else can write--if people won't offer it, then it's useless putting it on the list. Then again, I do have a feeling that there is still demand for AD 'cest.

Yeah, it's probably too obscure to go under 'main'. So long as someone does Brady Bunch 'cest I'll be happy.

In addition to requesting it in the exchange, you can always suggest it as a prompt for the porn battle.

Of course! You see, that's why I put up this query--because I knew I'd be missing things like that.

Well, doing an interests search for "incest" (and cheefully noting the large number of non-deleted/no longer deleted comms) suggests the following:
+LotR. I know there's some quantity of incest written; I don't think it's terribly popular in the multiverse, though.
+Star Wars. Kind of classic, you know?
+I think in all truth I would include Marvel, although possibly my understanding of the incestuousness of that universe is biased by selective flisting. Nonetheless! It's a quite popular and current fandom with multiple possibilities for all kinds of incest.

I was thinking today about how one would run this kind of thing. (Fortunately I don't have to. *g*) Whether, for instance, participants would be allowed to specify writing preferences beyond fandom (not like femslash annual, in other words), or whether limits like "sibcest only" or "m/m only" would be allowed. Obviously the advantage of the former is that it makes match-ups much easier, and I imagine match-ups in a multifandom challenge are usually nightmarish. The advantage of the latter, of course, is that writers don't have to be exceptionally flexible to write, and in a challenge like this, where many possibilities may actively squick people, that kind of flexibility might be too much to ask for.

(I am totally imagining someone getting my request and going, "When I said 'VMars incest' I meant 'Duncan/Veronica when they thought they were siblings' not... the other thing.")

In conclusion, CLEARLY Matilda will be the next big thing in the 'cest world and should be everyone's primary fandom. :p

I'm only certainly going to allow people to say "sibcest only," although I'm going to require people to agree to writer at least sibcest OR parent/child--"I won't write anybody closer to cousins" will just be too hard to match. I haven't decided yet about "m/m only"--I'm leaning against it, but maybe I'll let them write it but not promise to honor it.

Matilda certainly will not be a "main" fandom but I'll probably provide a longlist of more obscure, 'cesty fandoms (like Brady Bunch) so that the early signer-uppers will have a clue what to offer.

The problem with Marvel, of course, is that few fen are equipped to write all the 'cest that could possibly exist in Marvel comics, even if they limit it to a certain type of cest like sibcest.

I see what you mean about LotR and SW, but I'm still not sure if I'll be able to get enough people from those fandoms to participate.

What about Narnia?

I take your point on all three fandoms I suggested -- none of which I'd be able to write for, anyhow. I'm thinking hard, though! (Is there is a certain number of core fandoms you'd like to include, or do you just want to make sure all the current favorites are represented?)

(On the above issue: I almost feel like it would be legitimate to say "will write either slash but not het" in this kind of situation because 'cest can certainly be squickier if it's het.

I'll have to think about Narnia, but I sort o0f want to include it for selfish reasons. Definitely on the longlist, of course.

I want to make sure the current favorites are represented, as well as preferably giving everybody who'd like to participate something they could offer. Of course, can't plan for every contingency, especially in a squick-0worthy fest like this one.

Your point about hetcest being squickier than slashcest is a good one.

But almost everyone in any fandom is at least familiar with LOTR and SW, so they could write it ...

True. And that's important, and may well be the deciding factor to tip them onto the list. Of course, just because they could write it doesn't mean people are going to offer/request it.

Not that I'll be participating in this 'thon, but speaking for myself I'm familiar enough with LotR and SW that I could read them but I really don't think I could write anything of substance about the characters from those texts.

No one's mentioned Buffy?

Or what about Lost?

What potential 'cest pairings do you think Buffy lends itself to? I haven't seen much Buffy/Dawn or anything like that.
