Ficathon Planning
Jun. 6th, 2007 07:00 pmIf I were to run a multifandom cest-a-thon exchange, which fandoms should be the "main" fandoms? Veronica Mars, Supernatural, Firefly, and Harry Potter seem obvious choices, since they lend themselves to the incest, but are there others which should be on the list?

Date: 2007-06-07 12:18 am (UTC)+LotR. I know there's some quantity of incest written; I don't think it's terribly popular in the multiverse, though.
+Star Wars. Kind of classic, you know?
+I think in all truth I would include Marvel, although possibly my understanding of the incestuousness of that universe is biased by selective flisting. Nonetheless! It's a quite popular and current fandom with multiple possibilities for all kinds of incest.
I was thinking today about how one would run this kind of thing. (Fortunately I don't have to. *g*) Whether, for instance, participants would be allowed to specify writing preferences beyond fandom (not like femslash annual, in other words), or whether limits like "sibcest only" or "m/m only" would be allowed. Obviously the advantage of the former is that it makes match-ups much easier, and I imagine match-ups in a multifandom challenge are usually nightmarish. The advantage of the latter, of course, is that writers don't have to be exceptionally flexible to write, and in a challenge like this, where many possibilities may actively squick people, that kind of flexibility might be too much to ask for.
(I am totally imagining someone getting my request and going, "When I said 'VMars incest' I meant 'Duncan/Veronica when they thought they were siblings' not... the other thing.")
In conclusion, CLEARLY Matilda will be the next big thing in the 'cest world and should be everyone's primary fandom. :p

Date: 2007-06-07 12:32 am (UTC)Matilda certainly will not be a "main" fandom but I'll probably provide a longlist of more obscure, 'cesty fandoms (like Brady Bunch) so that the early signer-uppers will have a clue what to offer.

Date: 2007-06-07 12:56 am (UTC)I see what you mean about LotR and SW, but I'm still not sure if I'll be able to get enough people from those fandoms to participate.

Date: 2007-06-07 01:10 am (UTC)I take your point on all three fandoms I suggested -- none of which I'd be able to write for, anyhow. I'm thinking hard, though! (Is there is a certain number of core fandoms you'd like to include, or do you just want to make sure all the current favorites are represented?)
(On the above issue: I almost feel like it would be legitimate to say "will write either slash but not het" in this kind of situation because 'cest can certainly be squickier if it's het.

Date: 2007-06-07 01:37 am (UTC)I want to make sure the current favorites are represented, as well as preferably giving everybody who'd like to participate something they could offer. Of course, can't plan for every contingency, especially in a squick-0worthy fest like this one.
Your point about hetcest being squickier than slashcest is a good one.
