I think canonwhoredom is just indicative of the kind of relationship you have with the canon, and to some extent the canon itself. I know male fans who are just as character-oriented as the stereotypical female fan, and although I'm a woman, I'm definitely of the "memorize all the tech specs/power levels/inane factoids" type.
