1. Pick your favourite 15 movies
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Fill in the film title once it's guessed.
5. No Googling/using IMDb search functions.

(The indexicals seem to switch between 4 and 5. Or else 5 would be incompatible with 2.)

1. If his was more than just a vague ambition, if he was absolutely determined to discover the truth, there's no way we could prevent him. -- The Truman Show, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] drifterskip

2. Okay. But, I'm saying, it's like, I don't want to cram in sex or guns or car chases, you know... or characters, you know, learning profound life lessons or growing or coming to like each other or overcoming obstacles to succeed in the end, you know. -- Adaptation, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] fandrogyny

3. Look. He wouldn't even talk to me unless I had a drink with him. And then, it took three shots of something called "tequila" just to find out that HE was the one we're looking for! And I've spent the last twenty minutes trying to keep his hands off me! -- Star Trek: First Contact, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] doyle_sb4

4. We are David and Ruth Laskin. Which one do you want to be? I prefer to be Ruth, but I'm flexible. -- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] palan_diriel

5. Sometimes people have feelings. I'm referrin' here to people. -- Serenity, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] frogfarm

6. And what is 'truth'? Is truth unchanging law? We both have truths. Are mine the same as yours? -- Jesus Christ Superstar, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] frogfarm.

7. If it's dead, why does it keep growing all the time, even after you're dead? Well, maybe not your hair. You'll probably be bald. -- The Secret Garden, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] zepooka

8. Correct me if I'm wrong, but your friend seems to be hitting on my friend.

9. This is scary stuff! Shouldn't we be worried about the kids in the audience? -- The Muppet Christmas Carol, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] doyle_sb4

10. Someone has to die in order that the rest of us should value life more. It's contrast. -- The Hours, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] drifterskip

11. Look at yourself, look at what you've been reduced to! Have you given any thought to what's going to happen when school starts?

12. And so to the end of history, murder shall breed murder, always in the name of right, and justice, and peace, until the gods create a race of men that can understand.

13. We have a dance in the brothels of Buenos Aires. It tells the story of the prostitute and a man who falls in love with her. First, there is desire. Then, passion. Then, suspicion. Jealousy. Anger. Betrayal. When love is for the highest bidder, there can be no trust. Without trust, there can be no love. Jealousy, yes, jealousy will drive you mad. -- Moulin Rouge, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] ludditerobot

14. "My job consists of basically masking my contempt for the assholes in charge, and, at least once a day, retiring to the men's room so I can jerk off while I fantasize about a life that doesn't so closely resemble Hell." Well, you have absolutely no interest in saving yourself. -- American Beauty, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] frogfarm

15. All my life I've done what's expected of a traditional Patusani girl. And who do my parents think they are, telling me who I'm going to marry? I'll decide who I'm going to marry, not them! That is if I marry. I mean that was a really swell kiss and all, but I just didn't want to hurt your feelings about the marriage thing. But we can still date, right?

Cut-tag text is from The Neverending Story, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] bookishwench.

Other than Serenity, the only one I recognize is Jesus Christ Superstar. Although 14 might be American Beauty but I'm not sure because that movie annoyed the piss out of me and I was sorry I sat through the whole thing.

In the name of thoroughness, which is JSC and which the BDM?

14 is American Beauty, which I found a brilliant study of American dysfunction but which I can see how it would be very different things to many different people. Given your response, though, the fact that you recognized it is quite impessive.

Your thoroughness is commendable :)

5 - Serenity
6 - Jesus Christ Superstar

(The JCS soundtrack album was one of the many albums I grew up listening to repeatedly.)

13) Moulin Rouge

14) Fight Club

15) Bend it Like Beckham, I think.

I thought I recognized 2, but I had to look it up. Therefore, I'm not listing it.

Well, the LJ cut is "The Never-ending Story."

#2 might be "Adaptation."

#7 might be "Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead"

I just know that the moment I log out, I'll guess the Laskin one, and feel stupid for not having remembered it better right now.

Oh, damn! I think #1's The Truman Show... I had that on just the other day. Ed Harris for the win.

One of my favorites, too... I always wish for good fanfic for it, too, though I don't know if it's the sort of movie that needs fic. It was just circling around in my head, your quote there, and I was like... c'mon, I can hear it.

Part of me really wants fic, but , , , I don't think so really. I mean, we're left to imahine what his life will be in the "Real world," and there's a lot of intiguing places one can go with that, but I'm really invested in the forbidden love romance angle, and . . . I don't really want conflict. I want Tru Luv 4 Eva. Which would be a really boring story.

Ed Harris came to speak at our campus in undergrad, and I went because I had nothing better to do. And I had no idea who he was at the time. I listened to him talk, and it was only when someone asked about the Truman set design that I realized that he played one of my favorite characters in my favorite movie. And then I realized he was also the guy who played my favorite character in Aopollo 13. And also....

In the screenplay which is sitting on my harddrive because it crosses too many genres to be ever salable, I mentally casted Lindsay Lohan as the female lead and Ed Harris as the male lead.

::grins:: Fascinating casting, there.

Christof interested the hell out of me when I first saw the movie, much more so than even Truman did.

And I think you've captured my feeling about fic for the movie, too. Conflict would be needed for an intricate fic for The Truman Show, but it's a movie rife with conflicts -- layers of conflict -- and I wouldn't want to read more. It stands as is. Leaving Truman where he is works for me. It's what happens next to Christof, I suppose, that I'd still like to know.
