Renting (or otherwise viewing through whatever means) Firefly and Serenity would be of the good. They're both pretty brilliant works of art, albeit the former for different reasons than the latter. River is my favorite character (one only has to look at my Firefly Character Index to figure that out), hitting a huge number of narrative kinks (sort of Dawn and Drusilla and Fred all rolled in one) and I may have mentioned once or twice that Summer Glau makes me go guh.
