They didn't live in West Virginia. They lived in what appears to be a modestly prosperous neighborhood in a small to midsized Midwestern city.
A family that owns its own small business and two-story home in a decent neighborhood and can afford to keep a spouse out of the workforce is almost certainly not working class.
