In my Firefox they show up as question marks and in my IE they show up as empty boxes.
I certainly feel uncomfortable breaking rules/laws even when I know I'm almost entirely unlikely to get caught. I didn't intend my statement as a "Oh you should do it anyway;" I was just honestly curious as to how they enforced it (since I find creation of unenforced/able laws v. problematic).
Even when not at the point where one's continued existence is in danger, I think there's definitely the sense that one could be using one's money more wisely (paying off loans, saving up for a down payment on a house, etc. etc.).
