Too Much Time on IMDb
So, the actress who played Mezoti (the Borg little girl) on Star Trek: Voyager? Apparently played "Girl Student" in Serenity. Which, if you remember, was also the name of the role played by Demetra Raven, aka Jenny Grimaldi, aka the baseball girl from "Chosen," the Buffy series finale. What, did Whedon only hire extras for that scene if they had the appropriate geek credentials? (Except not, because the actors playing the other kids don't have anything interesting to be said about them.)
(Also, !Mezoti's IMDB page picture? Guh, although not exactly subtle. If only there were a way to AU canon enough to get aged-up Naomi/Mezoti. But Naomi's accelerated aging would be a pain in trying to get that to work, not that canon ever really remembered that detail anyway, not to mention that when the relevant subpart of canon ends, they're in opposite quadrants of the galaxy. Maybe one could abandon the pretense altogether and just write Scarlett/Marley RPF. I don't know, at a con or something. Whatever.)
(And Demetra's web site makes me wince. Just, no. Please, God, no. Jenny Grimaldi would have better sense. And also be too busy fighting vampires and/or playing baseball.)
(Now I really want to buy Scarlett's EP, because, I don't even know why. I do love one of the reviews, though: "I must say that she isn't well-known here in germany and the place where i live." Yeah, and everywhere else on the planet where people don't have encyclopedia knowledge of Star Trek: Voyager. Well, either Star Trek or Reba. So pretty much everywhere.)
Rescuing myself from the parentheticals, this reminds me that Mesektet (aka White Room Girl) from Angel is the star of the new remake of Fame, the one that Stacey Shirk claims "is better" in her song "Ten Dollar Solo" from Commentary!: The Musical. (I learned this when both the old and new versions of Fame showed up in my Netflix suggestions.) And also apparently the Fame remake "was directed by Kevin Tancharoen, brother of [Commentary!] co-creator Maurissa Tancharoen." Who is in the new season of The Guild.
(My embarassment squick caused me to pause Guild 5x01 about two-thirds of the way through, so I haven't seen it yet. Am sad that the season probably won't have any Venom/Riley content in it, though. Can they get a spin-off? I really just want to watch Michelle Boyd and Teal Sherer play evil bisexual gamers now. Because, yeah, awesome.)
(And somehow I've landed myself back into the land of the parentheticals. Boo.)
Also I have the vague recollection that Mesektet turned into one of those ubiquitous Disney Channel starlets, and that her older sister dated Sam Winchester?

Vote for this fic!
Title: Little Tiger
Fandom: Buffy/Angel/Firefly/Serenity
Pairing: Wesley Wyndam-Pryce/River Tam
Other Charcters: Faith, Tara, Inara
Rating: R
Summary: It's a very ancient saying, but a true and honest thought, that if you become a teacher, by your pupils you'll be taught.
Author's Note: This is a sequel of sorts to Twice Bless'd, but would fail as a ficathon story if it couldn't be read on its own.

Ari wondered what it meant that she guessed that most of my favorites were female. It means that she knows me well, because most of my favorites--all but four, plus the ambiguously-gendered Player--are female. Which is interesting, because many of these relate to early childhood, when my heterosexuality wouldn't have been a factor (right?). I'm not sure what it says that I've always found it easier to identify with (or at least be interested in) female characters than male ones, but I think it's pretty clearly true.

Return of the Memetic Engineer
If you happen to be working on some creative writing project, fanfiction or NaNoWriMo or what have you, post exactly one sentence (or more) from each of your current work(s) in progress in your journal. It should probably be your favourite or most intriguing sentence so far, but what you choose is entirely your discretion. Mention the title (and genre) if you like, but don't mention anything else -- this is merelyto whet the general appetite for your forthcoming work(s).

If I weren't already a Fred fan, I think the screencap from which I made this icon would be enough to convince me. (The language geek in me says: Use of the subjunctive plus a "from which" construction in the previous sentence! Elevated language score!) (The philosophy geek in me says: Counterfactual conditional score! But if I weren't a Fred fan, I would have to be fundamentally different than I am now, because my being a Fred fan has necessary and sufficient causes in my life history and temperament, the latter being to some degree a result of the former. Would those fundamental differences be enough to render me resistant to teh awesomeness of teh Fred? And if I said "If the Fred fan were not me" [or technically, as language geek points out, "If the Fred fan were not I"] which is supposedly logically equivalent, would that mean the same thing?) (Welcome to my mind. Are you scared yet?)
And to prove I am a geek (as if I needed any more proof after the parentheticals in that last paragraph), I've spent many many hours over the last few days going through the archives over at
femslash_minis and indexing the fics so they are searchable by character. So if you've been wondering why I haven't been reading my flist and commenting on all your brilliant posts and why my own posting has been sparse (and I know none of you have been wondering that but I like to pretend you have) that is the reason why. What is it that allows me to be so organized with fic? I don't know, because I don't seem to be able to get anything else organized. But I still need a screencap of Nandi if anyone has one.
So, tabulating the results, it turns out that we've had somewhere in the vicinity of 185 fics served. (My numbers are off because the total number of fics added up, with each fic being counted twice--once for each member of the pairing--except for the Kennedy/OFC which gets counted once should be an odd number, but isn't. So there are still issues with the index, which I expected. If you figure out what's wrong, or find I've done something unforgiveable like leave your fic off the list, don't hesitate to comment or email.)
So, I know the question on everyone's mind is: who's the slashiest? So here's the answers:
( Pairings ) ( Fics )
Which proves that Faith is the little black dress of Jossverse femslash, having been paired with 18 other Jossverse women and starring in a whopping 40 fics. That's quite a feat! But one which surprises no one, I suppose, because we all knew that Faith was, well, Faith. What is it that
jennyo likes to say about Eliza Dushku and femslash? I forget, but I wish I didn't, because if I could remember then I'd sound all cool.
This prodigious amount of femslash (and believe me, I know now just how prodigious it truly is) would not, of course, exist if not for the brilliant idea and hard work of
cadence_k.
ETA as I read everyone on my flist complaining about the weather: Lastly, yes, it is hot here too. 95 degreesF outside at this moment and it's frelling 9:30 at night. And work has no air conditioning. C'est la vie.
