a promo pic from the movie or something, i dunno )

Apparently Krysten's the second female lead in a new movie. The female lead is Isla Fisher (who?!); the male lead is Hugh Dancy (again, who?!).* Members of the cast I actually recognize include Joan Cusack, John Goodman, Lynn Redgrave, and John Lithgow.

As much as I love Krysten, I think I'll wait for this one to go to video.

As for the other item in my voicepost, I've been listening to the LibriVox version of New Chronicles of Rebecca on my mp3 player, after having listened to Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm a couple of months ago (that being my first introduction to the book, spoken or written).

*This is me being too lazy to look up the unicode for an interrobang.

I think tonight's Gilmore Girls was a rerun? Or maybe not. I only caught the tail end, waiting for VMars. In any case April remains the most adorable thing (erm, person? character?) ever. And Alexis is stil hot.

Is there GG fic which focuses on the interactions--in a gen way, I swear!--between Rory, Gigi, and April? Because I want that. Alongside BSG Cally/Gaius, of course. (Or Cally/anybody. Rec me good Cally fic?)

Tina Majorino: still teh awesome )

In short, I loved everything about this episode except for the plot, and I didn't hate that either.

Okay, you need to understand a few things:

X. I watch GG with my parents.

X. My mother and I 'ship Lorelai/Christopher; my father 'ships Lorelai/Luke.

X. My mother disagrees with my father and I that there is an implied contract between the show and viewer that Luke and Lorelai will get together. When we pointed out similar OTP arcs in other shows, her retort was "But those [arcs] were stupid." In short, she's confusing what she thinks should be with what is.

X. Neither of my parents would frame the debate using fanfic terminology, because they are not at all familiar with it.

X. Instead, they frame it using terminology I relayed to them from idiolects I encounter at work: Christopher is Lorelai's "babydad."

X. Whenever Krysten Ritter's character appears on screen, I shout out, "It's Gia Goodman!"

X. This has gotten old fast for my parents, who have never seen an episode of Veronica Mars in their life.

Gilmore Girls

I really liked it. Plot stuff was good, nice developments, dialogue was fun, Alexis is still hot. Two thumbs up.

Although what was up with those act breaks? I mean, I know, "fade out on scary monster" isn't so much an option in this genre, but still.

Veronica Mars

Honestly, only look under the cut if you're really bored. Short story is I enjoyed it. Under the cut is random impression recorded as I watched.

Ari wondered what it meant that she guessed that most of my favorites were female. It means that she knows me well, because most of my favorites--all but four, plus the ambiguously-gendered Player--are female. Which is interesting, because many of these relate to early childhood, when my heterosexuality wouldn't have been a factor (right?). I'm not sure what it says that I've always found it easier to identify with (or at least be interested in) female characters than male ones, but I think it's pretty clearly true.
