Supersupersymmetry

Bobby returned from the Danger Room session to find Kitty in his room, sitting on his bed. She was dressed in her normal outfit, jeans and a t-shirt, with two exceptions: she was wearing a pair of long black gloves that went up to her elbows, and she was wearing a red wig—with a white streak spray-painted down the middle.

“Hard day?” she asked.

“I’ve had worse,” he answered. “Why are you dressed like that?”

She smiled. “Ah thought this was what you wanted, sugah,” she said in an exaggerated Southern accent.

“Kitty.”

“Forget about that intahloper,” Kitty continued. “She thinks she is good enough, going on missions and training in the Danger Room, but she hasn’t seen real danger. Not like you and me, at Alkali Lake. That forms a bond. What did she do when the school was attacked? Scream and run away?”

Kitty’s Rogue-impersonation was so over the top that he had to keep himself from laughing. “Are you finished?”

“It just makes you even hotter for her, doesn’t it?” Kitty asked, reverting to her own voice. “Knowing you can’t have her. You play your games, calling her your girlfriend, but who is it that you’ve gotten past third base with?” She kissed him.

Bobby gave into the kiss for a moment—God, could she kiss—then pulled away. “You think you know me?”

Kitty smiled. “Better than she ever will.” She went to take off the gloves when Bobby grabbed her hand.

“Leave them on,” he said.

This cracked me up -- even considering that I love Kitty and Rogue, and loathe Bobby, it cracked me up.

I would have thought that Bobby wasn't interesting enough to loathe, but I saw your explanation in your journal. I have my own issues with the Rogue/Bobby/Kitty dynamic as well, mostly that Rogue's jealousy towards Kitty is sold as having to do with her mutation, and that doesn't make sense to me (as it assumes that the only thing Bobby would see in Kitty is being able to touch her, which is rather demeaning).

Bobby's the obvious conduit for the het male gaze, being the easiest point to use to insert myself into the story in relation to Rogue and/or Kitty.

The conceit of the original fic is interesting but doesn't work for me because it feels out of character (for both of them) but I love the Kitty you (hjcallipygian) create in that addition.

When movieverse canon can't seem to keep straight what Kitty looks like or how old she is or any other fact about her from film to film, I don't really feel all that bad at writing her in a way which might potentially be OOC....

Fair enough. I tend to just handwave Kitty from the first two movies (where she's basically yet another face in the crowd) and focus on third-movie-Kitty who actually got a personality.

Although now I can only picture Kitty as the reincarnation of Unus the Untouchable....
