There are some really wonderful fics written for Asimov's robot universe, which I will henceforth call I, Robot (bookverse). This is not a disparagement of the other Robot fics, which I haven't read; I'm only really interested in those fics focused on Susan Calvin, and they were uniformly wonderful.

Hostage Negotiation. Perfectly keeping with the feel and theme of the original Robot novels, Dr. Calvin has a puzzle involving robots to solve--and as always, reason and logic win out over hysteria and emotion. Perfectly characterized Susan Calvin.

Or your money back. Drawing on the broader cast of characters at U.S. Robots than just Dr. Calvin, this story isn't as tight, but takes advantage of its sprawl by taking on a few more themes.

The Conscientious Objectors. The structure of the "Susan Calvin explores a puzzle about robot" story is used to great effect to take on issues about the responsibility of the individual in the face of situations seemingly beyond our control. A profile in cybernetic courage, so to speak.

I've friended you back, but I'm curious; I see your location and that you're friends with some of my friends... do I know you IRL?

I friended you for purely fannish reasons, but a few seconds cross-referencing between LJ and Facebook leaves me reasonably certain of your identity (and how scary is that?); I don't think we've ever met, but I can't rule it out for certain. While I found you via a mutual friend, I mostly friended you on LJ for the same reason my RL persona friended you on facebook; you have interest in Torchwood, which is currently my favorite television show. (2nd is VMars, on which you have meta posted in your journal....)

E-mail, IM, or LJ Talk me and I'll respond with the identity of my RL persona (if you can't figure it out the same way I did).

Okay, make that absolutely certain of your identity.

I'm pretty sure I know who you are now too. Freaky. It's a small Internet, isn't it?

Well, since I found you via Erin, it's as my brother commented: "If you stay in the trench...."
