I miss Donna. I miss the snark. I miss the frivolity. I miss Donna.
OTOH, finally a Vinick episode. I think I have to say, though, I think I'm underwhelmed with what we got. Some of Vinick's principles showed in, but much didn't. As viewers, our loyalties still aren't torn between Vinick and the can't-do-any-wrong too-perfect Santos. Maybe the writers are setting us up for a reveal later in the season, but now that Donna is gone I'm not giving them the benefit of any doubt.
Structurally, the ep was a mess. There was no real theme that I could detect, no organic unity, no real beginning or end. The final image before they went to peoples' names had no real emotional weight.
All in all, I was disappointed with what we got in this episode. I've been waiting for a Vinick-centric episode for a while now, but because it presents the opportunity for the show to take some real risks. There were no risks here, simply lackluster storytelling. I've come to expect better.
Tomorrow, I take my brother to Serenity.
