"Deepening the disarray in the Anglican Communion over homosexuality, the archbishop of Kenya, Benjamin Nzimbi, consecrated two American priests as bishops of the Anglican Church of Kenya to serve disaffected Episcopalians in the United States." Laurie Goodstein's briefing goes on to claim that the Episcopal Church "takes a liberal stance on homosexuality"--which is certainly news to me. (Let me be clear; I love my denomination, and do believe that the Holy Spirit is moving it in what I believe to be the right direction. But there are plenty of battles left to be fought, not the least of them being the ones to preserve unity with those who believe other than I do, and to say that the ECUSA, which stresses orthopraxy over orthodoxy, has a monolithic stance on pretty much anything, other than perhaps a shared liturgy, is misleading.)

"An openly lesbian priest is one of five candidates nominated by a search committee to be the next Episcopal bishop of Chicago. The nomination [. . .] came as a surprise because the Episcopal Church passed a resolution at its last general convention calling on dioceses to 'exercise restraint' by not consecrating any more openly gay bishops." (Yeah, that sounds like a "liberal stance" to me.) Also a brief by Laurie Goldstein (the NYT's religion editor).

I'm actually surprised this news only warrants briefs in the NYT. Anyone have links to fuller coverage and/or commentary?
