I'm willing to take requests, if there's anything of mine--or of yours (I'd be particularly interested in reading m/m since I am, you know, a boy)--you'd like me to read. Only restriction is that I don't curse, so every "fuck" will have to be changed to "screw." (That was a mention, not a use.)

ETA: And the offer goes both ways--there are some of my stories I'd just love to have read by a female voice.

I was raised not to and never have, and the mental block is so strong at this point that starting at 23 is pretty much out of the question.

Oh, okay. I would have thought you'd have done some sort of radical re-examination of everything you grew up with, but I suppose there's no compelling reason *to* begin cursing.

Exactly. I mean, I know--intellectually at least--that they are just words.

Although my mother gets upset when I use "Zut!" or "Expletive!" as expletives, because "everyone knows what you really mean." Which makes no sense linguistically (what does "really mean" even mean?), but there you go.

I sometimes try to be more intentional with my word choice when cussing because it's so easy for words to become stand-ins for ideas and have the word come to have little to no connection to the idea being conveyed. I like the idea of just saying "expletive."

(I see your ETA. I don't have a microphone on my computer, so I think I'm limited to LJ posts -- which cut off ~5min -- but I'd probably be happy to try my hand at reading one of your fics if you'd like me to.)

Well, when I curse (insofar as I do), the idea being conveyed is usually something along the lines of "I am displeased with the universe." Although I guess to my mother it's more "I am violating a cultural taboo," even if I'm not actually violating a cultural taboo. But even that seems like forcing propositional content on a speech act which just by nature isn't propositional.

I have an accent, one that I can't even identify, so that might be a problem. Other than that, I'm kind of all for it, right now :)

Okay, so I finally faced the horror of downloading audio on dialup and listened to "My Ideal Audience" on the grounds that it would totally be the most surreal experience of my life. Which, I have to admit, it kind of was. Your River!voice is kind of amazing. I am a little terrified, actually, by how easily you channel River. But the weirdest thing was that I think your speech patterns are similar to mine in some ways; it kind of sounded surreal the way listening to yourself on tape sounds surreal?
