But seeing as I'm basically monofannish in the Jossverse, I'm going to answer for Buffy/Angel, Firefly/Serenity, Star Trek: Voyager, and The West Wing. If you know that I'm familiar with some other source text(s) (Heinlein, Conan Doyle, MZB, Shakespeare, Tolkein, X-Files, Narnia, etc.) and want to ask, though, go ahead and I'll answer.

[Helena Bonham Carter] won a Best Actress Oscar nomination for her work in the film, and but for her nationality (four of the five nominees hailed from outside the U.S. that year; the American won the Oscar), she might likely have joined the elite pantheon of foreign-born Academy Award winning actresses.

Is it just me, or does that sentence make absolutely no sense at all? If it wasn't for her nationality, she still wouldn't have "joined the elite pantheon of foreign-born American Award winning actresses" because if it weren't for her nationality, then she'd have been frelling American.

Ah, the glory of counterfactual conditionals.

Also, Innocent as a Rose, the much recced Liesl von Trapp fic, is billed as Sound of Music fic. But where, exactly, is the line between fic for the musical and Von Trapp family historical RPF? ETA: Is Liesl even dead yet? [/eta]

(Not that I particularly care what the answer is; I'm just interested in the question as an intellectual curiosity.)

ETA2: Research at Wikipedia implies they changed the names of the children--but not the adults--for the musical. I'm not quite sure why. And I'm not sure what difference that makes to the question at hand. Is the fanfic now a roman à clef? [/eta]

I've gotten back to skip=385 today going back and catching up with the flist in more detail than the cursory read-throughs I've been doing throughout the holiday, catching up with fic and personal anecdotes and Yuletide and whatnot. If anyone thinks I might have missed something, drop me a line.

And to reciprocate, here are the honest-to-goodness fics I've written in the last week or so (i.e. I'm excluding ficlets; all of these have, you know, plots). They're both sort of Christmas fics:

Firefly: The Adventure of the Stolen Heart [Simon/Kaylee, River, R] Simon, Kaylee, and River run a job together. In the midst of crime, they plan for the holiday.
