Gakked from [livejournal.com profile] twinkledru, the original meme read "Tell me of a fandom you know I know of and I'll tell you [various things]." But seeing as I'm basically monofannish in the Jossverse, I'm going to answer for Buffy/Angel, Firefly/Serenity, Star Trek: Voyager, and The West Wing. If you know that I'm familiar with some other source text(s) (Heinlein, Conan Doyle, MZB, Shakespeare, Tolkein, X-Files, Narnia, etc.) and want to ask, though, go ahead and I'll answer.

Oblique spoilers for the current season of West Wing, I suppose, but not really.

1. The first character I first fell in love with:
ETA: Use the word "first" enough in there, did you?[/eta]

BtVS/AtS:
I don't remember where in canon I began watching, exactly, so I can't say for sure. But once I saw Drusilla for the first time, I not only fell, but I stayed fallen.

Firefly: Kaylee, of course.

ST:VGR: Kathryn Janeway. The first episode I ever saw was "The Killing Game." The TV Guide claimed it was a Star Trek episode, but instead there was some movie about Nazi Germany. Then I looked into Katrina's eyes and saw the type of fire that you only see in starship captains, and I knew I hadn't made a mistake. I was hooked from that moment on.

WW: Donna, perhaps. I had read BtVS/WW crossovers prior to seeing canon and had constructed my own mental image of Donna that was absolutely, completely wrong.

Or possibly even President Bartlett.

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now:

BtVS/Ats:
Dawn. I mean, I always liked the character, but then I blinked my eyes and when I opened them I was a Dawn writer.

Firefly: Book, maybe. I wasn't fond of him, but then discovered how easy he was to write because I'm so familiar with the symbologies with which he might view the world. I'm still not exactly overly fond of him, though, so another way of answering the question might be River. I only didn't expect to love her because she didn't show up until the second half "Serenity," though, so I'm guessing that doesn't count. My third guess would be Mal.

ST:VGR: 7 of 9, perhaps. I disliked the way she was brought in just for the, well, you know, but then we had Doc/7 and that was of the good. I don't remember what my initial reactions to the Doctor himself were; my guess is I liked him from the beginning.

WW: Leo and CJ. My love for them really deepened as I saw more and more canon. Leo's gravitas and CJ's liberalism both warm the heart. John Spencer will be sorely missed. Requiescat in pace.

3. The character everyone else loves that I don't:

BtVS/Ats:
Angel (especially on Buffy)? Cordelia? The fandom is large enough that everyone can always find people who both hate and love any given character.

Firefly: Inara. Not that there is a lot of Inara love

ST:VGR: I'm not active enough in this fandom to know what everyone else loves. I don't hate any characters, although some of have a lot more love than others.

WW: Hate someone on this show? I don't know what that means. Love to hate, maybe, and iffy even then.

4. The character I love that everyone else hates:

BtVS/Ats:
Take your pick, although Kennedy and Eve jump to mind most easily. I'm enough of a contrarian that I try and make a point of giving these characters a try, and when I keep an open mind I usually find there is quite a lot to love. No, they aren't Tara or Lilah. They don't need to be. ETA: Which isn't to say I don't miss Tara and Lilah.[/eta]

Firefly: I don't think the fandom as a whole hates anybody on that ship.

ST:VGR: Naomi Wildman.

WW: Vinick. He's so thoughtful and principled, and I loved that scene where he ate ice cream with Bartlett. He believes in what he stands for, and although it's not what I believe in, they aren't views I find morally repugnant either (i.e. he's not pro-life or anti-gay, plus he's secular). This is a with whom guy I could respectfully agree to disagree. I wouldn't vote for him, but I want him to be President in the fictional universe.

5. The character I used to love but don't any longer:

?

6. The character I would shag anytime:

Erm, I wouldn't shag anyone "anytime." But if the groundwork of a mutually respectful relationship was set, I suppose the following "shaggings" would be particularly enjoyable? Except, it doesn't work like that, so I'm going to ignore the question and just write down after whom I lust.

BtVS/Ats: Faith.

Firefly: Kaylee. River if she were sane.

ST:VGR: Nobody. I wasn't quite old enough to lust when I watched this show.

WW: Kristin Chenowith's character.

7. The character I'd want to be like:

BtVS/Ats:
Dawn. We all know I Mary-Sue her.

Firefly: Simon. Possibly Mal. River if she were sane.

ST:VGR: Janeway. The EMH, sort of. Naomi Wildman.

WW: Erm. . . ?

8. The character I'd slap:

BtVS/Ats:
Andrew.

Firefly: Jayne.

ST:VGR: Chakotay.

WW: Right now? Josh.

9. A pairing that I love:

BtVS/Ats:
Willow/Tara, which I never read or write because I love it so in canon.

Firefly: Mal/Kaylee. Within canon, Simon/Kaylee. Basically, any het or femslash combination of Simon, River, Mal, and Kaylee will make me happy.

ST:VGR: Doc/7.

WW: Josh/Donna. It's so deliberate, like Wesley/Fred or Sam/Diane, but it works.

10. A pairing that I despise:

BtVS/Ats:
Despise is too strong, but I'd rather not have a return to Buffy/Angel.

Firefly: Mal/Inara. Despise is not too strong a term.

ST:VGR: Despise is too strong a term again, but I suppose any relationship that gets in the way of Doc/7. Kim/7 was sort of cute, but did anybody actually like Chakotay/7? It upset not only the Kim/7 and Doc/7 shippers, but the considerable Janeway/Chakotay shippers as well. (J/C doesn't do anything for me. P/T was nice in canon, but I didn't get overly excited about it.)

WW: I rarely thing of West Wing in terms of pairings.

1. Default

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Keyword: Wrong Flowers

This is my newest icon to be uploaded, so I decided to let it be my default for a while. I'll probably return to using Dru eventually.

2. Oldest

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Keywords: Drusilla, Dru with knife, Freud

The "got Freud?" text was added later, but this was more or less the icon I opened up my journal with.

3. Newest

4. Saddest

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Keywords: Dark Champions, Mesektet

I don't really have a sad icon.

5. Happiest
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Keywords: Firefly, iluvmycaptain

Yay! It's my OTP!

6. Angriest

In theory, I suppose, this one:

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

But I don't think I've ever used it for an angry post. In practice I'd probably use this one:

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Keywords: Dawn, Watcher!verse

7. Cutest

8. Sexiest

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Others might choose the Dru/Angel, but I think Mal/Kaylee are giving off waves of UST, even if I'm the only one to see it (and I'm not, if [livejournal.com profile] iluvmycaptain is to be trusted!).

9. Most humorous

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Keywords: River

Based on a recent Joss quip. This was my default before the pre-Raphaeliter flowers Drusilla quote thing I'm using now.

10. Favorite 'shippy icon

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

11. Favorite fandom

All of my icons are fandom-related in one way or another, although my current default is just barely so.

12. Favorite animated

I don't have any animated icons.

13. Favorite quote

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

That Joss is a funny one, even though the text on the icon is a paraphrase.

14. Favorite textless

I don't have any textless icons.

15. Most used other than default

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Used for most of my Watcher!verse stories (and I manage to set most of my fanfic, even those for 'thons, in the Watcher!verse), and almost anything with Dawn in it. And I write a lot of Dawn, if you hadn't noticed.

16. Favorite I've made

I've made them all.

17. Favorite of someone else's

I have some icon pages bookmarked for the day when I need (or more likely want, or am able) to use someone else's. At the moment, though, they're all mine.

18. Favorite of the moment

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I'm interpreting "favourite of the moment" to actually mean "least used." Because Mesektet isn't getting much love lately and that makes me sad.

19. Favorite overall

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

20. How many icons do you have total?

6

21. How many can you have?

6

22. If you could buy more space, would you?

Define "could." LJ regulations let me buy more space. If by "could" you mean "had millions of dollars and could do pretty much whatever he wanted," then sure, if I could, I would. Otherwise, no.

23. Do your icons make a statement about you?

Of course they do, just like my fic. I'm not going to analyze what the statement is, though--why should I be any better at interpreting? *Has to bring up intentional fallacy issues even when meme-ing.*

24. What fandom do you have the most icons of?

That should be "Of which fandom do you have the most icons," buddy. I don't care what these new grammarians say, prepositions do not belong at the end of clauses. Even if I do it all the time since I haven't trained myself to catch it. I blame the public and provate educational systems in this country. ETA: And I spelled "private" wrong. I blame the American public and private educational systems.[/eta]

They're all Jossverse. If we have a grudgematch between Buffy/Angel and Firefly/Serenity, Buffy/Angel wins two-to-one.

25. How do you categorize your icons?

By character, usually.

26. Are your icons mostly made by other users?

I answered this. No.

27. Do you make icons?

They don't spring up on my hard drive ex nihilo, some sort of technological virgin birth.

28. Are they any good?

I'm singularly ill-equipped to answer this question, but I would think not really.

29. Animated icons are...

ETA: Elipses should have spaces between the dots, and at the end of the sentence four dots should be used instead of three. Yeah, I'm bitchy this morning. [/eta]

Fun to read. Don't know how to do them, though.

30. In general I think icons are...

More a luxury than anything else.
