T1 was a causality loop.
T2 showed it was possible to change history in the Terminator universe.
T3 (which I liked) was another causality loop, and apparently actually is canon after all?
T:tSCC changes history again, like in T2. Which means that all of Cameron's knowledge of the future is that of an erased timeline. Now if we suppose some sort of temporal inertia, that changes in history are barely noticeable on a macro level rather butterflying out, much of her knowledge, but not all of it, will still be useful. This is even plausible considering the way Skynet still went online despite Sarah's changing of history in T2.
. . .
In some ways, my stepsibcest kink (Gordy, The Neverending Story III, The Parent Trap II) is even stronger than my biosibcest kink (Time Enough for Love, Ender's Game). The Parent Trap is wonderful in that it plays to both kinks at once. This is all a way of introducing the fact that, even though a bunch of my flist is already shipping Sarah/Cameron and that makes perfect sense to me, there was never any doubt in my mind that I'd be shipping John/Cameron (and I'd assumed the show would be, too).
I've been happy with the way the relationship is developing so far (no surprises, but some really nice moments) and am looking forward to see more with it, as they become more intimate on a number of (sometimes conflicting) levels. I really sort of want to read and/or write a John/Cameron set in the T3 timeline, before he sends her back to change history. (I'm wondering whether he sends back Cameron before or after the T3 Arnold is sent back--or, since John doesn't send back the T3 Arnold himself, maybe the two events take place completely independently, and John and his girlfriend--Kate?--don't know what each other is doing?)
Actually, I want fic in general. I'm sure the comms and everything are already set up. *goes to find them*

Date: 2008-01-16 05:58 pm (UTC)And what the hell was going on with John and former!step-dad? (What was his name?) That whole "don't come closer, please don't touch me" bit was like watching two people who used to be in an abusive relationship meet up after a couple of years. I was seriously suspecting that Johnny had been the victim of sex abuse.
I'm still a bit conflicted about the show itself. Yeah, it's got the same tone as T2, but it doesn't quite have the savagery or desolation that made T1 great. And I'm still just annoyed whenever I see a cat or dog "smelling the evil" on a Terminator unit/android/etc. The Terminators aren't inherently evil, and they don't have the biological signatures that identify them to animals! Gah!

Date: 2008-01-16 06:43 pm (UTC)That seems like a win-win sceanrio: good for fans of T3, good for the SCC writers who need flexibility, and good for fanfic writers who need gaps to fill.
I'm probably more of a fan of T2 and T3, which have more science-fictional elements than T1 (and I'm not talking about the bigger and better Terminators, which just got annoying fast).
