"You're such a sweet girl"? Wow, Gwen, way to be condescending to Tosh.

Gwen and Rhys are married, so now they're talking about kids. How very . . . heteronormative.

I really like Gwen and Rhys' argument. He's right about the necessity of not letting the act of preservation destroy the freedom and life one is ostensibly preserving, but he's wrong about a lot of other things, all in believable ways.

Ooh, Ianto as counterconspirator. I like.

Gwen's crying as Jonah tells his story? Not working for me. Too much too early.

An ethical issue that Torchwood is on the wrong side of--I was hoping that was where this was going. We've seen too few of those lately.

So why wasn't the mother retconned?

"So why wasn't the mother retconned?"

I thought the exact same thing, but I think it had with theme at the end of the show, with both the Mum and Gwen putting away their reminders of the past.

Well, I wouldn't claim that the show is always logical and never inconsistent, but it seemed like a particularly obvious case of ignoring what the characters would actually do for extradiegetic reasons.
