alixtii: Drusilla holding a knife to Angel's throat. Text: "Got Freud?" (Freud)

The rules:

1. Leave a comment saying you want to be interviewed.
2. I'll reply and give you five questions to answer.
3. You'll update your LJ with the five questions answered.
4. You'll include this explanation.
5. You ask other people five questions when they want to be interviewed. And it just keeps going, and going, and going.
[At least until it hits a memetic dead-end. I mean that's the entire point of memes, nyet? That they disperse through the meme pool, reproducing themselves?--Ed.]

My answers, along with the questions that [livejournal.com profile] karabair asked me:

1. What character/pairing/event, etc first drew you into writing fic?

In a grand sense, Capt. Kathryn Janeway, many many years ago. But when I was still young I swore off fanfiction. Then I had this plotbunny about Drusilla getting a soul and I got caught up in it again...and you know the rest of the story.

So Drusilla. I'd have to say Drusilla.

2. How do you feel about being in a gender-minority on LJ/fandom in general?

I cherish the opportunity and hope it reminds me not to ignore my white het male privelege in RL. I've always felt more comfortable in the presence of women, and a lot of the values of fandom are my values as opposed to those of a machismo-driven world. Sure there are plenty of times when I feel invisible, when people are forgetting my needs and desires, etc. and I think those are experiences every male should have: the world would be a better place. But I've never felt unwelcome, so I certainly can't complain.

3. What's the first book you read that you wish you had written?

Eek! The first? No clue.

4. Which of the potentials do you think was going to be the next Slayer, if not for Willow's spell?

Well, I never honestly believed Faith would die, honestly. I sort of hoped Buffy would, but that's a different matter. And I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be thinking liek a fanfic writer, deducing from the aspects of the universe (in which case I don't think there's any evidence), or more like a literary critic, trying to second-guess Joss (which I couldn't do either). I liked Amanda, Kennedy, and Molly, so I wouldn't have minded if any of them became Slayer, and I wouldn't have wanted Rona to become the Slayer. But, honestly? If it wasn't Willow's spell, there would have been something else out of left field happening, because we're talking about Buffy the Vampire Slayer, here.

It's sort of like before when you asked "barring act of Joss" and I was "bwah?"

5. If Drusilla had been around for OMWF, what would her song have been like?

[livejournal.com profile] spikendru and [livejournal.com profile] paynbow might remember my discussing this over at the old City of Angel boards. I wanted her to sing "The Insane Song" and I think it was [livejournal.com profile] paynbow who suggested it might be similar in some way to "My Favorite Things" from The Sound of Music. I also wanted Lilah to sing "So Sue Me, I'm Evil" which we all agreed would be a big brass-band number.

My one worry, though, was that Juliet Landau might not be able to keep her Drusilla voice while singing. (Which was one of the reasons why a "My Favorite Things"-type piece would be good, because then she'd be able to speak on pitch.) Of course, I saw Angela Christian (also American) pull it off beautifully in ALW's The Woman in White (when I saw that show in London last year), where she played a different insane British woman, but Juliet's recieved somewhat different training.

Also, because I honestly felt guilty not following this next meme to the letter. Gakked from [livejournal.com profile] janedavitt:
If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, even if we don't speak often, please post a comment with a memory of you and me. It can be anything you want--good or bad. When you're finished, post this little paragraph on your blog and be surprised (or moritified) about what people remember about you.
It's just so pleading, so pouty, so whiny . . . I dutifully obeyed.

Yes, I'm cheating.

Because I have such a terrible memory...

Remember when you wrote those three related ficlets for me? Well, not really FOR me but based on a challenge I wished I had the time to issue before Halloween? Yeah, I loved that :)

I don't think we've ever actually met. Hi, I'm The Last Good Name Left: wanna watch some football and drink and talk about Slayers and witches and other teenaged girls? (These are the only things I do.)

What really counts as "meeting" anymore in a virtual world? I don't watch football or drink, but I certainly seem to spend a lot of my time talking about Slayers and witches and Watchers. Not to mention girls, both of the fictional teenage variety and the real-life college-age variety.

You are also inredibly interested in some fashion or other; I don't remember with 100% clarity why I friended you, but I think it was primarily for your meta.

Ah. Is that what it means?

(Still not 100% clear on the concept, but that's okay.)

I didn't expect someone I actually knew to answer. I'm going to make a majority of the questions fannish anyway.

1. Who is your favourite X-Man? (I'm sure you told me after you asked me years ago, but I don't remember Do you remember how I answered?)

2. What is your wierdest memory from high school?

3. If you could have total creative control over turning any book into a movie, what book would it be and why? How would you make it work?

4. Who do you think should be the Democratic presidential candidate in 2008?

5. Are you satisfied with the ways in which Buffy and Angel ended?

1. Rogue. And no, I have no idea how you answered. I barely remember yesterday, lol.

2. Probably Kate Terrado riding in Danni Costa's trunk.

3. hmm. I suppose my unpublished novels don't count. I'd like to turn Katherine into a movie I suppose.

4. Darth Vader. Or John Edwards.

5. Yes to both actually. I liked the way Angel was left open for interpretation, while Buffy was finally freed from her responsibility (kinda)

My favorite is also Rogue. I mainly remember that the conversation occurred (it was significant), but I do remember also telling you that my brother's favorite is/was Cyclopes.

1) If you had to choose one canon universe in which to inhabit for the rest of your life, which would it be?

2) Of the characters you like to watch (and/or read about) and like to write, whom would you least like to meet?

3) As one male to another, what is your perception of this predominately female space?

4) You are planning a movie with you and your favorite Buffy characters. What do you watch?

5) If you could have total creative control over turning any book into a movie, what book would it be and why? How would you make it work?
