In other news, I've been trying to come up with a plot for a Faith/Xander, and I realized one of the reasons I write Dawn: she actually gets around. Right now I have Faith in Cleveland, and Xander in Africa, and even after President Bartlett pardons Faith (I know!) there's no real reason for the twain to meet. [livejournal.com profile] nwhepcat and [livejournal.com profile] liz_marcs--who I think had a birthday recently, so happy birthday!--handle it by going AU after "Chosen," but I'm a canon whore so I can't do that. So I'm stuck with a split-up Scooby Gang, but Dawn's able to visit Willow and Kennedy in Brazil, then go visit Dawn, then Faith in Cleveland, all the while commuting between her sister's in Italy and the Watcher's Council offices in London.

Finals are hell. I'll see you later.

(At least my applications are complete. Now I just have to figure out how to get the Registrar to send my transcripts.)

I tend to work around the Faith canon post-Chosen thing by going with the presumed Faith spinoff model, which suits her very well: rover. I imagine that she travels well, and provides assistance when and where needed, but not as an actual full-time job. She doesn't really seem like (has never seemed like, for that matter) the type to sit around in one place. I tend to think that she more just wanders around killing things.

I like all those stories where she's a guardian of a bunch of slayerlets, because they force Faith to deal with new situations, but it doesn't seem like it plays to her strengths.

That's a good point, but while I can see Faith as a drifter, I really can't see her leaving the country, or at least the continent, even if she isn't a fugitive. To me, that types of movement requires being a troubleshooter--and then we're back in the situation of Faith being pushed into a position of responsibility.

So I can see Faith wandering around and kiling things (even though that;'s not what my Watcher!verse Faith does), but I just don't see Faith wandering all the way Africa, because that'd involves taking a plane, and that implies some sense of purpose that I just don't see Faith as having.

I suppose I never think of planes: I always assume that she would eventually get called to London (or Rome?), and from there, Africa is overland. Alternatively, I can see her either getting stuck on a transport ship, or signing on as crew for some spending money. Still no intentionality (because you're right, she doesn't have that sense of purpose), but she does have a sense of adventure, or rather, no sense of roots.

That said, I've never tried to get Faith and Xander together in Africa; I think of Faith there on her own. It's a big continent, after all.
