Off the top of your head, right now, what ten ships would you likely drop what you're doing to read fic for? Or, alternately, what are the top ten ships that you'll give a fic a chance for, or that you've been dying to write, or that you've been dying to read... These can be new loves, old flames, or something in between. Explain if you like, but you don't have to. Then tell us 3 things these ships say about you. Leave a comment about what you think these ships say about me, then repeat in your own LJ.

These are in the order they occurred to me:

1. Faith/Dawn. On my brain due to [livejournal.com profile] thelastgoodname's recent fic.
2. Kennedy/Anyone. Especially Willow/Kennedy. Because I love Kennedy, and not enough people do--so anyone willing to take the chance gets automatic points in my book.
3. Eve/Anyone. See #2.
4. Spike/Darla. They pretty much hate each other. They're soulless vampires. No matter how the author decides to throw these two together, it's going to be both hot and interesting (as long as it is in character). Darla can show her seldom-seen soft side, or else it can just be one big power struggle.
5. Xander/Faith. This, of course, is the OTP of choice for some of my favorite hetwriters: [livejournal.com profile] liz_marcs, [livejournal.com profile] nwhepcat, [livejournal.com profile] m_mcgregor. But I'd also be willing to take a chance on a newbie who wrote this pairing.
6. Amanda/Anyone. I understand why Amanda doesn't get written. Not surviving "Chosen" makes it difficult to give a Potential much substantial screentime, and pretty much makes it impossible to write shipfic without going AU. I haven't written any Amandafic either (although I've requested it in 'thons). But Amanda! She's my favorite potential, even before Kennedy.
7. Mal/Kaylee. You know I'm bad shipper when I've compiled half my list before think to my OTP on it.
8. Xander/Dawn. Dawn viewed through the het male lense. Guh. Hits all the right kinks.
9. Wes/Faith. I mean, come on. These two are just hot together. Wes brings the het male lense, and Faith's Faith. Potential for a lot of hot power struggles and a dash of kink.
10. Wes/Fred. A geek fantasy and the het male lense.

Three things these say about me?
1. I still think in pretty monofannish terms. That doesn't mean there aren't pairings in fandoms other than Buffy that I'll drop everything to read; it just means that I didn't think of them first. On reflection, in Firefly I'll read Saffron/Anybody. (Pairing isn't as reliable an indicator of whether I'll like a fic in Firefly as in Buffy, in part I think because there's only the 8+7+6+5+4+3+2+1=36 combinations of [Book-less] pairings on the ship itself so that everyone ends up writing the same pairings. So a Simon/Kaylee or a Kaylee/River might be the type of fic I like, or might not be, but I can be fairly certain that someone writing Eve/Dawn has tastes similar to my own.) In Veronica Mars I look for Veronica/Mac, Veronica/Lilly, Mac/Cassidy, and Duncan/Lilly, but my reading patterns aren't really solid in that fandom yet. I haven't read much House yet.
2. I stick to femslash and het. Okay, that's not a surprise. The women are all either minor characters (Eve, Kennedy, Amanda), have a dark side (Darla, Dawn, Faith), or are Fred or Kaylee. Fred's the geek fantasy, and you either have the Kaylee love or you don't. The men--i.e. Xander, Wes, Mal--are more or less self-inserts.
3. The ships closest to canon are Xander/Faith, Xander/Dawn, and Spike/Darla. Which means that while I may be a canon whore, my ship preferences don't seem to care.

ETA: From the Drabble-Matic:

Dawn and Giles
by William Shakespeare

Enter Dawn

Giles appears above at a window

Dawn:
But, soft! what light through yonder window breaks?
It is the vial of holy water, and Giles is the hav'rok demon.
Arise, beautiful hav'rok demon, and examine the underexposed codex.
See, how he leans his stomach upon his leg!
O, that I were a glove upon that leg,
That I might touch that stomach!

Giles:
O Dawn, Dawn! wherefore art thou Dawn?
What's in a name? That which we call an arm
By any other name would smell as shocking
Dost thou love me? I know thou wilt say "like a passage in the Codex forecasting your death"
And I will take thy word; yet if thou swear'st,
Thou mayst prove antepenultimate.

Dawn:
Swain, by yonder underexposed codex I swear
That tips onto the couch the verdant stake--

Giles:
O, swear not by the codex, the polysyllabic codex,
That silently changes in its bare orb,
Lest that thy love prove likewise bare.
Sweet, antiquarian night! A thousand times antiquarian night!

Parting is such excellent sorrow,
That I shall say antiquarian night till it be morrow.

Exit above

Dawn:
Sleep dwell upon thy stomach, peace in thy leg!
Would I were sleep and peace, so stealthily to rest!
cautiously will I to my beautiful arm's cell,
Its help to examine, and my shocking arm to tell.

I can so see Dawn and Giles saying these things. Hee!

Of course you can steal it, as I stole it from [livejournal.com profile] inlovewithnight.

I love Amanda's geekiness, her discomfort in social situations, her out-of-place enthusiasm. (Although both Kennedy and Vi have out-of-place enthusiasm, too.) Amanda's just so....real to me. Kennedy and Vi are embedded in a complex web of fictional desire, but I feel like Amanda could be a real person I could really meet and be friends with and really desire.
