Let Auld Acquaintence Be Forgot?
Apr. 12th, 2006 12:47 pmEver since Lent started, I haven't celebrated any birthdays, so I have a backlog:
m_phoenix (Mar 8),
nemo_gravis (Mar 15),
azdak (Mar 19),
unfitforsociety (Mar 21),
wesleysgirl (Apr 2),
paynbow (Apr 2), and
hjcallipygian (today!).
Yesterday was a busy day, going from one lecture to the next (free food!), but I got back to the appartment after 9pm, so I missed VMars. Am glad my flist cuts for spoilers.
Monday was my one-year LJ anniversary. I've known many of you for longer, of course.
spikendru remembers me from the City of Angel forums. Many of you I first met on Fanfiction.net.
thenyxie I first read there, and
karabair and I had pretty robust conversations via email even then. I began to check
hjcallipygian's LJ to look for updates of Of the Chosen, and then I began to read his flist. I was introduced to a bunch of great authors, either by his flist directly (like
m_mcgregor) or via the
su_herald (like
wisdomeagle). Once I figured out how to get my own LJ on April 10, 2005, I already had a sizable flist in place--and had already generated enough of a presence that the people I had friended knew who I was.
And now I can do that meme I was formerly unable to do!
A Year Ago: April 12, 2005. I posted Funeral, a fic I had previously written about Illyria, Giles, Faith responding to Wesley's death, and Eve responding to Lindsey's, to LiveJournal. (I may have done this later and backdated the entry.)
6 Months Ago: October 13, 2005. I posted my (Buffyverse) Character Index, allowing you to search my fic by character. I've kept the index updated ever since.
3 Months Ago: February 12, 2006. A post which is part meme, part meta, in which I do the "top 5" meme and address the questions "What won't you write" (or, more interestingly, what won't
wisdomeagle write--a question posed to her by me during the Top 5 meme) and "So would you say that your pairings are the same people across different stories?" Note also the fascinating discussion in the comments which pretty clearly laid the seeds for "Dear My Ideal Audience."
A Month Ago: March 13, 2006. A thesis research post in which I look at aesthetic relativism in fandom and apply a philosophic perspective (in this case, that of Hilary Putnam) to it.
A Week Ago" April 5, 2006. I responded to last week's Veronica Mars.
