"Something went wrong in the terraforming," Mal answers. "Planet still supports life, the Alliance don't care the sky's the wrong color."
"I sorta like it, actually. Gives it character."
"This planet has more than enough character for me, Kaylee."
Kaylee knows that when Mal talks like that he don't mean it. It's just when he's worried about a job, he don't think about nothing else. "Come on, Cap'n. How often you see a green sky? You gotta slow down." She kisses him, gets his attention.
“I ain’t lookin’ at no sky.” He looks in her eyes, instead.
Thank you. It's the first Mal/Kaylee I'd ever written, and the one of which I am the most fond (I think I've written another Mal/Kaylee drabble somewhere). I'm glad it worked for you.
“So you just jumped through this rift, without even knowing where you were going?” Faith asks in disbelief as she chugged back her glass of Jack Daniels, feeling the sting as it went down her throat.
“I was told I might be able to find my husband here,” the dark-skinned woman answer, sitting straight in her chair as she slowly sipped the beer Faith had given her as if it were water. “Nothing else mattered.”
“Well, I guess you came to the right place,” Faith admitted. “If you want to talk to the dead, then Sunnydale’s the place to be.”
“What I’m offering you is a chance to improve the world, Dawn. Haven’t you always wanted to make it a better place? To ease human suffering? To bring paradise to Earth?”
Dawn sighed. “Honestly, I’m usually too focused on making sure it doesn’t become a worst one to worry about it. You’re a ghost, Warren. You can’t offer me anything.”
“Your sister never hesitated to help people in need. Just ask yourself, Dawn: what would Buffy want you to do?”
Dawn didn’t hesitate. “Abjure.” In the silence which resulted, Dawn smiled, and pulled open her copy of the Tradëscan Codex.
