As remarked before in this journal, the underlying process of the game of "How Many Children Had Lady Macbeth?" provides some interesting fundamental similarities and dissimilarities to other processes of inquiry: to a detective investigating a mystery, to a scientist developing a theory, to the work of logicians, linguists, and lawyers. So it should be in no way surprising that while going through my favorite blogs, I came across several matters of interest which speak to the philosophical issues at hand in the way we go about our canon-formation (speaking of canon here as a set of "facts" about a fictional and/or actual world derived from a text, rather than as the text itself).

penknife), I will too. There are two things which are almost certainly on the list:

X. The novels of Robert A. Heinlein (so I can request Lapuz Lazuli Long/Lorelai Lee Long twincest, probably, although there's plenty of other interesting pairings, as the multiverse is so rich).

X. The Parent Trap (1999), Hallie Parker/Annie James twincest. (And, hee!)

[ETA: The really sad thing is that, in my head, Laz and Lor are played by Lindsay Lohan.]

I don't really know how

yuletide requests work. How specific a prompt does one provide? It couldn't be too specific, obviously, since just matching up fandoms is so much of a chore that they need to make computers do it. . . .

So, what else? (I'm assuming the fandom in my icon doesn't count as "rare," or else I'd try to get some more Rosalind/Celia. Which is definitely being put in my LJ interests, stat.)

I just typed "Lupin" instead of "Dupin" in the essay on "The Purloined Letter" I am writing. Fandom has eaten my brain, and it isn't even my fandom!

Anyway, speaking of detectives, I watched the Veronica Mars repeat on last night. I don't know why I'm not feeling the love for this show, but I know one problem is that I'm simply not interested in the characters. A dearth of female characters in last nights ep is part of the problem: in addition to Veronica herself, there was only Charisma Carpenter's character (to whom I'm as apathetic toward as I ever was to Cordelia) and the slumber party girls. But none of these characters, male or female, really encourage me to identify with them.

I don't know if last night's ep was darker than usual, but I also miss some humor. And I don't just mean clever dialogue; Buffy had a sense of the absurd and wasn't afraid to go there, while VM seems to be nitty-gritty realistic. And I find that a real turn-off. I want to watch shows that are larger than life, and Veronica Mars is not a supergenius teenage girl who is going to take over the world. She is not going to learn Sumerian in a summer, and it's not going to be assumed that because she is good at physics she must be a whiz at biology and chemistry too. If I can't have vampires, I want the White House, or at least a Sherlock Holmes. But Veronica? Is not nearly enough Mary Sue-ish for my taste.

But I'll try again, probably, so don't count me out yet.

After I accidentally deleted my open windows at skip=525, I worked my way back through my flist, reopening the windows, and IE crashed at skip=475. At that point, I gave up, and I'm just going to rely on newsletters to catch up. If anything interested, don't be afraid to drop a link in the comments.

Speaking of which, ( meta on reading texts, detective novels, Veronica Mars, and of course the will-to-power ).

I hope to do some longer and more sustained meta later, particularly a craft-of-writing on how we structure fic and how only a subset of fics are strictly speaking "stories," but as my life is going at the moment that "later" promises to be very long from now.

Okay, back to watching the Lindsay Lohan Parent Trap on ABC Family. I really love this film, but a Londoner likes to eat her Oreos with peanut butter? WTF?
